OAKLAND, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rescinding the endangerment finding, leaving it with no authority under the Clean Air Act to regulate emissions.
Statement from Veda Banerjee, Senior Communications Director, California Environmental Voters:
“The very agency charged with protecting the public from environmental harm is now sabotaging its own authority by rescinding the Endangerment Finding. The EPA is turning its back on science, leaving frontline communities to bear more destructive extreme fires, deadly heat waves, and other unnatural disasters. This isn’t regulatory reform, it’s regulatory abandonment.
For decades, California’s clean air waivers have been a lifeline, cutting pollution, saving lives, and driving national progress. This rollback doesn’t just kneecap one of the strongest tools we have, it’s a direct attack on the freedom of states to protect their residents when the federal government refuses to. If California’s authority is taken down, the country’s ability to move and make progress will follow.
This decision would be the Trump administration’s most significant step yet to derail federal climate efforts. It’s a gift to corporate polluters and a gut punch to the public. We won’t let the Trump administration make the American people poorer, sicker, and less safe without a fight.”
